Penguins storm Oddbins store in Christmas ad

Wine merchant Oddbins has introduced its Christmas ‘Keeping it real’ campaign this week featuring Pepita the Mexican penguin.

This has included releasing footage of escaped penguins in one of its stores to provide back-up to Pepita the Mexican penguin to “have it out with” the bears that feature in many of the wine merchant’s windows.

In addition to the video, Pepita has also taken over the brand’s Twitter feed. Oddbins is encouraging shoppers to get behind either #TeamPenguin or #TeamBears, while the next instalment of the campaign will see bears from the window displays stage a retaliation.

Managing director Ayo Akintola said: “Our festive campaign with Pepita the Mexican penguin at the helm, is the essence of what makes Oddbins both a bit bonkers and quite different to your regular, dull wine merchant! We’re real and we’re not afraid to buck the trend and our customers love us for it. We like to disrupt the norm and how better to do that this Christmas than an epic turf war with penguins and bears!”
