Online sales strong contributor to John Lewis’ weekly sales figures

The 5th week to 1st march 2014 saw John Lewis sales of £68.76m, a 6.9% increase for the same period last year.

Tim Harrison, Head of Format Development at John Lewis said, “Last week was a sound trading performance with a few warmer days sneaking into the week. Sales finished the week 6.9% up on a year ago, just ahead of the year to date performance.

“Branches steadily grew sales ahead of last year. The best shop growth came from High Wycombe and then the maturing 'at home' shops, with Chichester, Newbury, Chester and Poole at the top of that list.

“Our online channel continues its robust performance with another strong week, up 25.3%. Fashion provided the fastest growth with customers responding well to the new season products as the weather starts to improve.

“Total fashion sales for the week were up 7.5% boosted by the online growth, but sales in Home were tougher, down by 0.2

“EHT had another robust week's trade with sales up 12.5% Audio sales were 37% ahead with Bose, Sonos and John Lewis products all selling well, and big-screen TVs boosted the Vision result to a 14% increase"
