Ocado announces pre-tax profit and supply partnership with Carrefour
Online grocery retailer Ocado has reported a pre-tax profit of £200,000 for the six months to 15 May. This compares to a loss of £6.7 million for the same period last year.
Revenues in the six months also saw a rise, up 20% to £277 million from £230 million last year.
Ocado said its profits were limited by its operational capacity but added that it was investing in its customer fulfilment centre “to expand capacity to our target of 180,000 orders per week during the next 18 months." It also said that construction of a second customer fulfilment centre in Dorden was underway.
In a further announcement, the retailer said it had entered into a supply partnership with French supermarket Carrefour and from July would trial the 'Reflets de France' range of authentic French produce to all Ocado customers across the UK. This is in addition to its current Waitrose lines.
Chief executive Tim Steiner said: "We are delighted to announce our new supply partnership with Carrefour, an important development in our strategy to offer the broadest and most diverse grocery range to all our customers in the UK."
