Ocado sales up 11.5% as it ramps up capacity at warehouses

Online grocer Ocado has seen its retail revenue climb by 11.5% to £348.6 million in the 13 weeks to 2 September as it ramps up capacity at its warehouses.

Average orders per week rose by 11.4% to 283,000 in the third quarter period while the average order size edged up from £106.25 to £106.26.

The retailer said it had benefited from the additional capacity provided at its newest robotic warehouses in Andover and Erith. After opening this summer, Ocado’s Erith centre processed 20,000 orders last week, just 14 weeks after opening.

The retailer said the new capacity will provde it with further opportunities for growth in the UK.

Tim Steiner, Ocado's chief executive, added: "Ocado's unique and proprietary technology, which makes these facilities work, is bringing greater value, quality and convenience to British shoppers while at the same time helping our partners redefine the shopping experience for their own customers. We are on track to deliver a significant number of new CFCs for our solutions partners in the coming years and as such are fulfilling our goal of changing the way the world shops."

In the first half of its current financial year, Ocado signed international partnerships with Sobeys, ICA and Kroger in which it will supply them with its online shopping and delivery technology.
