Nordstrom hires new board directors

US fashion retailer Nordstrom has appointed Kirsten Green and Glenda McNeal to its board of directors.

The new hires coincide with the news that current independent director Phil Satre will not be seeking re-election and that his term will end in May. Satre was appointed to the board in 2006.

Brad Smith, chairman of the Nordstrom board, said: “As Nordstrom focuses on its ambition to be the best fashion retailer in a digital world and achieving its long-term financial commitments, we're pleased to welcome both Kirsten and Glenda to our board of directors. The unique perspectives and experiences they bring to Nordstrom will continue to support our efforts to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers, enabling them to shop where, how and when they choose."

Green launched women-founded venture capital firm Forerunner Ventures in 2010. The company’s portfolio includes retailers such as Bonobos, Dollar Shave Club, Jet and Warby Parker. Prior to Forerunner, she was an equity research analyst and investor at Banc of America Securities where she covered publicly-traded retail and consumer stocks.

Meanwhile, McNeal currently leads strategy, negotiations and key initiatives for strategic partners of American Express. In previous roles, she led the company through pivotal transformation and growth, including the expansion into new sectors that did not typically accept credit cards.

The two appointments and Satre's retirement from the board will bring the total number of directors to 11, nine of whom serve as independent directors
