Nisa Retail has made a series of new appointments to its board of directors.

Christopher Baker MBE has been appointed to the position of chairman. Nisa said that Baker had considerable experience in corporate strategy and governance having held non-executive roles in both private and public sector organisations. A former non-executive director of Jacques Vert and Blooms of Bressingham, Baker has also held senior management roles at Littlewoods, Coopers & Lybrand and Hill Samuel Bank.

In a second appointment Gillian Wilmot, the founder and chief executive of Board Mentoring, will become an independent non-executive director. Willmott has worked extensively in the retail sector for companies such as Marks & Spencer, Boots, Next, Avon and Littlewoods. In her new role, she will chair Nisa Retail’s remuneration committee.

Nisa also announced that Peter Hartley was appointed as an independent non-executive director in December 2012. Hartley also has a retail background having held senior executive positions with Blacks Leisure, Betterware, Texas Homecare and Next. More recently, he has been a non-executive director of Ariel Communications and outdoor retailer Go Outdoors. Hartley chairs Nisa Retail’s audit committee.

In a statement Nisa Retail said that it board members were "delighted to welcome the three new independent non-executive directors, and look forward to working with them for the mutual benefit of the company and its member shareholders."
