Newby Hands to join has appointed Newby Hands, HarperÂ’s Bazaar beauty director at large, as its editorial director.


Newby Hands to join has appointed Newby Hands, HarperÂ’s Bazaar beauty director at large, as its editorial director.

Hands, who has worked with Harper's Bazaar for the last 16 years, will join the online beauty products retailer in the spring. She will remain in post at Harper's following her new appointment, spending one day a week at the publication and the rest of her time at

Prior to joining Harper’s, Hands was beauty and style editor at the Daily Mail and has also worked at The Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times Style Magazine and the Evening Standard.  

Commenting on the new appointment,  Aaron Chatterley, chief executive of said: "This is a very exciting stage for our brand.  Seven years after the company was founded, we are now the largest beauty e-tailer in the UK and Europe. Newby, is one of the biggest names in the beauty industry and her unparalleled expertise will be invaluable as we expand into new and exciting arenas."

Hands added: "I am so excited to be joining I have followed the company’s rise with interest and truly believe that it represents the future of beauty e-commerce.  I am delighted to be working on shaping the brand by adding my expertise of beauty journalism to its content. We have exciting developments in store."

The company is also expanding its marketing and brand relations teams. Victoria Chalmers, formerly beauty director at Modus Publicity, L’Oreal Luxury Division, LVMH and Marks & Spencer, will join the company to head up the PR and Communications function for both UK and international markets. said its turnover is expected to reach £26.5 million in the year 31 March 2011, up from £16 million in the previous 12 months.  It is forecasting annual growth of over 60% for the coming year.
