New store openings help Bluewater sales rise by 8% in May
Sales at the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent rose by 8% year-on-year in May as trade was boosted by a range of new store openings and the centres leisure offering.
The Lend Lease operated centre saw sportswear sales climb by 23%, reflecting the success of the new Adidas Homecourt store, while the centre’s catering brands increased their sales by 11%.
Clothing sales grew by 12% following the opening of new stores by Victoria’s Secret and Pink, and strong performances by other recent additions such as Topshop’s statement store.
Other brands to launch recently at Bluewater include US burger chain Five Guys and stationery retailer Jolie Papier.
Robert Goodman, Bluewater’s general manager, said: “The effect of new additions to Bluewater’s offer, such as Victoria’s Secret, Pink, Adidas HomeCourt and Five Guys, is evident. These new brands, which join the 37 that opened or upsized at Bluewater last year, create additional reasons to visit for guests. Combined with our focus on delivering a unique experience and the ability to do so much more in a visit, such as dine al fresco overlooking a lake or play a round of adventure golf, Bluewater continues to be the destination of choice in the South East.”
Goodman said the centre was also seeing an increase in sales of large format televisions in the run-up to World Cup, Wimbledon and the Tour de France.
