Mothercare bucks the trend
Total group sales up 9.4 per cent.Total sales grew by 9.4 per cent, with UK like-for-like sales up by 5.1 per cent. The firm said it was helped by strong performances from Early Learning Centre franchises in Mothercare stores and strong sales from Direct, the online division. International franchise business saw retail sales up 32.7 per cent boosted by the weakness of Sterling and by 30 new overseas store openings in the first quarter. New stores were opened in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Ian Peacock, Chairman said: 'This has been another strong sales performance with both the Mothercare and Early Learning Centre brands operating well across all channels.'
