Morrisons to extend opening hours at 230 stores
Morrisons is extending its opening hours for 230 of its stores as it looks to target a new so-called dawn and dusk shopper.
From today, the supermarket is adding an extra 1,600 hours of trading a week which means that 230 of its stores will now switch to opening hours of between 6am and 11pm. Previously, Morrisons stores typically remained open from 8am to 9pm.
The move follows research by YouGov which found that one in five consumers are now doing their shopping before 9am in the morning and after 8pm at night.
Morrisons chief executive Dalton Philips said: “Modern family life, flexible working hours and busy schedules mean customers want to shop earlier and later. Therefore we need to be open for longer. The extension of our opening hours is one of many changes we are making – to make shopping trips easier at our stores.”
