Monsoon appoints John Browett as CEO
Former Dixons boss John Browett is to become the chief executive of the fashion chain Monsoon Accessorize.
The appointment comes just over a year after Browett left the electricals chain and four months after his abrupt exit from technology giant Apple where he was head of retail. Browett left Apple six months after joining the business following a management shake-up.
Starting in his new role on 4 March, Browett will bring a wealth of experience in leading a large international retailer and in multi-channel retail. At Dixons, the owner of Currys and PC World, Browett is also credited with leading a major turnaround of the business.
Monsoon, which has 1,000 stores in 74 countries, has been looking to appoint a new chief executive since May last year. Founder Peter Simon said that Browett had the “right skills and experience” for the job.
Simon founded Monsoon in 1973 from a market stall on Portobello Road. This was followed by the launch of accessories chain Accessorize in 1984 and by Monsoon Home in 1998. The retailer now operates around 400 stores in the UK.
