Marks & Spencer hires UK's 'leading ladies' to head up new ad campaign

Marks & Spencer has hired 12 of the UK’s most inspirational ‘leading ladies’, including award-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren, to promote its new autumn/winter fashion range.

Celebrities featured in the 'Meet Britain's Leading Ladies' campaign include artist Tracy Emin, singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding and Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams. The other women, who have all been chosen for their "strong sense of personal style" and "inspirational achievements", include Nurse of the Year 2011 Helen Allen and acid burns survivor Katie Piper.

With the adverts shot by legendary photographer Annie Liebovitz, the campaign features the women wearig a range of M&S clothing in quintessentially British locations such as a boat on the river Thames and the British countryside.

Steve Sharp, creative director at M&S, said: "We wanted to mark this moment with a confident statement about UK style. The British have a history of being creative and pioneering and these women represent just that. As industry leaders in their field, they make a significant difference that has seen them break boundaries, challenge stereotypes and create visionary artistic work."

The print, online and outdoor campaign, which has been created by RKCR/Y&R, will launch on 3 September.

The 12 women taking part in the campaign are:

Nicola Adams - Boxer and Olympic Gold medallist
