Marks & Spencer develops Cook with M&S app for Apple Watch
Created by the M&S Digital Labs team, the app offers customers access to seasonal recipes and converts them into a “shopping list” feature, where users can tick off grocery items from their wrist while they shop.
The new Watch app also helps customers to keep track of their cooking, using timing notifications to alert when ingredients need taking off the boil or out of the oven.
Peter Wright, product developer for M&S Digital Labs, said: “When we first developed Cook with M&S, we were aiming to provide not only recipe inspiration, but a tool that offers practical help in the kitchen.
“In the Digital Labs team, we always ask how tech can improve the customer experience, and specifically for the app, how can digital enhance the cooking process?”
Marks & Spencer said the original launch of Cook with M&S saw nearly 150,000 downloads in the first three months of going live. The team at M&S Digital Labs was able to take into account customer feedback on the original app to shape how it was adapted for the Apple Watch.
Wright added: “While currently only in its infancy in terms of mainstream consumer use, over the next year the role of wearable tech in customers’ everyday lives is set to grow as developments like the Apple Watch come to market.
“The way our Digital Labs team works, by constantly iterating and getting product to market as quickly as possible, means we have the capabilities to stay one step ahead in reacting to trends and anticipating customer demand.”
