Marks & Spencer announces board change
Marks & Spencer has announced that Jan du Plessis will succeed Sir David Michels as senior independent director on 1 March.
The move comes as Michels, who was appointed to the M&S Board as a non-executive director in 2008, steps down as deputy chairman and senior independent director tomorrow having served on the board since 2006.
Du Plessis has been a non-executive director at M&S since 2008.
Commenting on the move, Robert Swannell, Marks & Spencer chairman said: "On behalf of the M&S Board, I would like to thank David for his great commitment and contribution to M&S, and particularly for his leadership of the Nomination and Governance Committee and his role in ensuring a smooth succession. We are delighted that Jan has agreed to succeed David as senior independent director."
