Manchester sees strong demand from aspirational and premium retailers

New figures have revealed that ManchesterÂ’s retail sector is booming with approximately 600 brands now present in the city centre including seven retailers which have arrived in 2016.

According to international real estate advisor Savills, 54 new retail brands have opened in the city since 2012 to mark a net increase of 9%. In addition, more than half are classified as aspirational or premium retailers and include the likes of Mint Velvet, Kiko Milano, Kiehl’s and & Other Stories.

David Charlton, associate in the retail team at Savills, said: “Not only is Manchester attracting a diverse set of quality retailers, but many operators are choosing to come to the city above other locations. For example, & Other Stories in Manchester is the first time the brand has ventured outside the capital. Retailers have confidence in the continued attraction of Manchester as a shopping and leisure destination.”

Tom Whittington, retail research director at Savills, added: “The future for Manchester’s retail offer looks bright, as the city remains a key choice for many of the hottest names on the high street. With 54 brands arriving in the past four years, it is one of the strongest performers in the UK, particularly when you consider that our analysis only tracks new arrivals. Many more retailers already present in the city have also opened additional stores or expanded their space.”
