Manchester Arndale, the UKs largest inner-city shopping centre, is celebrating its best-ever annual footfall total with over 41 million visitors in 2012.
Visitors to the shopping centre rose 1.6% to reach a total of 41,377,255 compared to 40,713,772 in 2011.
The traditional Boxing Day sales were a popular pull with 203,692 people visiting the centre to look for post-Christmas bargains. This was a 6.2% increase on 2011 making it the best-ever Boxing Day in the centre’s history. Footfall figures also achieved record levels for New Year’s Day, rising by 6.5%.
David Allinson, centre director, said: "Every week in December, footfall exceeded a million shoppers which has never happened before - a real achievement for us.
"We found more people left their Christmas shopping until later this year, with the week beginning 17 December being the busiest showing an increase of 13.2% visitors on the last year."
