Majestic toasts 2.8% rise in like-for-like sales

Majestic Wine saw its like-for-like sales rise by 2.8% at its UK stores over the Christmas trading period as sales were boosted by an increase in customers treating themselves to fine wines costing over £20 a bottle.

The wine retailer, which has recently opened its 200th store, said its total UK stores sales increased by 5.9% in the ten weeks to 6 January 2014.

The increase in like-for-like sales over the Christmas trading period means that Majestic’s UK store sales grew by 0.8% on a like-for-like basis in the first 40 weeks of the financial year.

Majestic chief executive Steve Lewis said: “This Christmas, helped by our knowledgeable staff, customers chose to treat themselves and we saw strong growth in sales of fine wine above £20 per bottle. Thank you to all our customers for continuing to choose Majestic."
