Majestic sales rise despite challenging Christmas period
Majestic Wine increased its like-for-like sales by 1.1% during the Christmas trading period despite a Â“challengingÂ” trading environment.
In the 10 weeks to 5 January 2015, total UK store sales rose by 3.7%.
The performance means that like-for-like UK store sales have risen by 2% in the first 40 weeks of the financial year.
The retailer said the Christmas trading period was particularly challenging due to increased levels of promotional activity as competitors looked to attract customers into their stores and online.
Commenting on the performance, Majestic chief executive Steve Lewis said: "Majestic delivered like-for-like sales growth of 1.1% in a difficult Christmas trading period characterised by promotional activity and we are now focused on delivering our final quarter's trading. We anticipate this competitive pricing environment will continue throughout much of 2015."
