Mahabis collapses into administration

Premium slipper brand Mahabis has entered administration.

The company is known for its slippers with colourful detachable soles that enables the footwear to be worn both inside the home and out.

Founded in 2014 in London by Ankur Shah, Mahabis’ slippers were made by a manufacturer in Portugal but the brand had a small team in London who worked on online marketing.

A statement on the company’s website now reads: “We have, for the moment, ceased trading as the administrators take over the business. During the four years since we launched, we sold nearly a million pairs of slippers to customers in over 100 countries; we are all desperately disappointed at this outcome. Please bear with us as we do our best to work through the current circumstances.”

Mahabis also said that customers returning goods were likely not to receive a full refund and that any refund would take many months.

Earlier this year Shah told The Times that his ambition was to become the “Nike of downtime” and said that the brand was on track for sales of “well over” £20 million. The company has also expanded its range with the addition of backpacks, loungewear, watches and homewares.
