Lonely Planet to open UK retail store
Travel guide publisher Lonely Planet is to open its first retail store in the UK at Manchester Airports terminal one.
Opening on 29 June, the store will be operated by LS Travel and Retail and will be the second Lonely Planet store at an airport worldwide after Sydney Australia.
The design of the 100 sq m store will based on the concept for the Sydney store and will offer Lonely Planet books and a selection of travel products. The shop will also feature interactive technology to help the shop engage with passengers.
Lonely Planet sales & marketing director Shona Gold explained: "We are delighted to be opening a Lonely Planet store at Manchester airport with LS travel retail. This will be our first store in the UK and will offer travellers access to the full range of Lonely Planet guides, a selection of travel products and a world of inspiration to enhance their travel experience through a digital interactive hub and in-store experts."
LS Travel Retail UK & Ireland managing director Fin Casey added: "The Lonely Planet store opening at Manchester Airport contributes significantly to our growth momentum in the UK. It follows closely behind three store openings already in 2012: Watermark Books at Kings Cross, Relay at Cannon St, and the La Maison du Chocolat pop-up store in Terminal 5, London Heathrow, and represents the conclusion of phase one of our UK project for CTN and Books. We look forward to working closely with our partners at Lonely Planet and Manchester Airport, and to inspiring passengers at the airport with this unique store concept."
