Londis to double sales of fresh foods over next three years
Londis, the Musgrove Group owned chain of independent grocers, has reported that its fresh sales have increased by 26% year-on-year, following a £4 million investment in its fresh food operations last year.
The chain has seen fresh produce sales rise 33% year-on-year with the number of fresh produce lines available to Londis retailers on the increase. New ranges include seasonal favourites such as Jersey Royal potatoes and pumpkins, as well as fresh strawberries from farm to store in 24 hours.
Paul Courtney, Londis sales director, said: "We now have an extensive fresh range with over 1,300 lines. We’re driving the range of best sellers into all Londis stores, providing innovative wholesale deals and supporting retailers as they embrace fresh that’s relevant to their store."
Londis said that sales of fresh milk had doubled in the last 12 months as a result of offering milk through its retailer service centres enabling retailers to benefit from reduced wholesale prices and more frequent deliveries. The chain is now in the process of increasing the number of milk lines through the RSCs to include more regional varieties.
