Lombok goes into administration as nine stores close
Nine Lombok stores have closed as the furniture chain went into administration yesterday. Angora, the companys private owner, has bought the retailer in a pre-pack administration deal.
The closures were announced shortly before administrators Leonard Curtis were appointed.
The stores, which all closed yesterday, are in Guildford, Hampstead, Brighton, Leamington Spa, Kingston, Wimbledon, theBluewater shopping centre, Chiswick and Kings Road, London.
The company’s website and remaining stores in Tottenham Court Road, Batley, West Yorkshire, a clearance store in Fulham and a House of Fraser concession in Oxford Street will continue trading.
A spokeswoman for Lombok said that a consultation on job losses was being carried out but the number of redundancies has yet to be confirmed.
This is the second time that Lombok has been bought out of pre-pack administration, the first time being in 2009 when the current majority owner Privet Capital bought the business.
The company has struggled in the high street downturn as consumers continue to delay the purchse of big ticket items such as furniture.
