JYSK opens first store in Thailand

Scandinavian furniture retailer JYSK has opened the first of six stores in Thailand today as it looks to launch 30 branches in the country over the next five years.

The store is in the brand’s smaller “city” format and is situated in a shoppoing centre in Ratchapruk in the capital city of Bangkok. It will be operated by JYSK’s local franchise partner, Boonthavorn Group.

Frederik Kåre Kroun, franchise director at JYSK Nordic, said: “One of the strengths of JYSK is our ability to be close to our customers by having a widespread network of stores. That requires a good franchise partner, and by partnering up with Boonthavorn Group, I believe that we have an extremely strong foundation for the operation in Thailand.”

The remaining five stores will include city stores within Boonthavorn shopping centres, a JYSK flagship store, and a small store at Jatujak subway station in Bangkok.

JYSK said it expects the partnership with Boonthavorn to enable it to expand in Thailand “at a good pace”.

Sitthisak Tayanuwat, chief executive of Boonthavorn Group, added: “Boonthavorn, with 40 years of experience with home styling products, will now place JYSK in its 51st country. To achieve this no less than 30 branches are planned to open all over Thailand within the coming five years.”

JYSK opened its first store in Denmark in 1979 and now has over 2,700 stores and 23,000 employees in 51 countries.
