John Lewis reports strong weekly sales
John Lewis has reported a 7.6% increase in sales for the week to 23 April compared to the same week last year.
Cambridge was the top performing store but Brent Cross suffered from decreased footfall due to the closure of the M1 early in the week.
Fashion continued to benefit from the warm weather as did sales of sunglasses which were up 47% on 2010. Toys had their best week of the year as customers bought more outdoor toys. Homewares also had a good week exceeding 2010 sales by 14% as customers stocked up on Royal Wedding commemorative items.
Online sales performed well, particularly womenswear and accessories, with sales achieving a 33% increase on last year.
