John Lewis weekly sales up 0.7%

John Lewis saw revenues increase by 0.7% for the week to 17 June. Fashion sales were up 7.2% as the department benefitted from a price matching exercise against competitors.

Sales of electricals and home technology fell 8.1% against last year when sales of TVs performed well due to the World Cup. However, there was strong growth in IT, small electrical and audio with Kindles continuing to sell well.

Online sales were up 19% on the same week last year with fashion leading the way with a rise of 50%.

Maggie Porteus, head of selling operations, new format said: With only a week now left until our Clearance starts online and in shops, preparations are hotting up across all of our channels. In the current economic environment it is a great opportunity to capitalise on the extra footfall that we will experience."
