John Lewis weekly sales figures flat YOY

Consumers enjoy the first Spring weather and stay in their gardens

Week twelve for John Lewis saw sales of £61.86m, compared to £61.95m for the same week last year.

Mark Lewis, Online Director at John Lewis said that a number of factors contributed to turning week 12 into a challenging one compared to the level of trade this time last year. Fashion sales benefited from the change in weather. However, the first sunshine of spring kept a number of customers in their gardens rather than out shopping. That said, a number of stores posted strong results with the highlights being Glasgow and Sheffield: both 8% up on last year.

Fashion sales saw growth of 4% overall with Womenswear, Accessories & Beauty and Childrenswear all experiencing strong trade. Online shopping proved to be particularly popular in the key Fashion categories, particularly over the weekend, with trade up 39 per cent on last year. Small Electricals sales were up 22% 

The overall sales performance on johnlewis.com was up more than 11%.
