John Lewis sales up 7.7% last week
John Lewis saw its sales climb by 7.7% year-on-year last week after trade was boosted by MotherÂ’s Day gift buying.
Fashion sales rose by 9.8% as the retailer benefited from strong performances in the handbag and jewellery categories. The beauty category also had a good week with fragrance performing particularly well.
Home sales increased by 11.7% boosted by buoyant trade in the gifting category. Cooking and dining also saw positive growth with sales climbing by 14.2%.
Electricals and home technology ended the week 2.3% up on last year, with a strong set of results from audio.
Jon Williams, director of merchandising operations at John Lewis, said: “We had a good week overall, with total sales of £78.2 million, +7.7% on last year. Mother's Day in particular helped drive strong sales in both Fashion and Home directorates.
“This week our customers look forward to Easter, which is now appearing in our top search terms online."
