John Lewis sales up 7.1% last week
In the shops, Ashford was the top performer with sales climbing by 19% on last year. This was followed by the Chester, York and Ipswich stores which all posted double-digit percentage increases.
Online sales climbed by 22.3% in the week after the colder weather led customers to search for items such as fires, thermals, heaters and mittens. Despite the freeze, wellbeing remained on the agenda with Nutribullet the top ordered product from search.
Across the directorates, electricals and home technology continued its recent momentum with a strong uplift of 15%.
Fashion delivered growth of 2% following buoyant sales of own-brand womenswear.
Meanwhile, sales in the home directorate increased by 3.6% with a good performance in both new season products and clearance items.
Mark Felix, director of online trade at John Lewis, said: “As we trade the final week of our financial year our customers are already looking ahead, with online data showing us that they are already searching for Easter.”
