John Lewis sales up 4.1% last week
John Lewis said the weather influenced trading patterns last week as sales rose by 4.1% year-on-year.
The week got off to a strong start, but sales cooled as the temperatures rose which meant Friday and Saturday were quieter.
Online sales climbed by 21.4% while the top performing stores included Exeter, Chichester and Southampton where sales rose by 13%, 6% and 5% respectively.
Fashion sales increased by 10.3% as promotional activity helped women's accessories and beauty to achieve a 14% rise. Hot weather products were also popular, with sunglasses and sandals performing strongly.
Meanwhile, home had a softer in the week, with sales edging up 3.1%. The standout performer was again the outdoor living category which increased its sales by 37%.
Electricals and home technology faced another tough comparative week in vision due to last year's World Cup. In total, sales ended the week 0.4% down. Some of the best performing categories included small and large electricals.
Paula Nickolds, buying and brand director at John Lewis, said: “This week sees the launch of a two-week campaign for electricals and home technology, designed to drive awareness of our proposition, from NKU to Partner expertise and our guarantees, while Clearance preparations also begin.”
