Waitrose and John Lewis enjoy surge in sales ahead of Jubilee weekend

John Lewis and Waitrose have seen a surge in certain product sales in the last month as people get prepared for next week’s Jubilee celebrations.

The John Lewis Partnership said the Waitrose Entertaining service is proving very popular as customers look to host Jubilee-themed events at home with sales up 30% compared to last month.

Picnic food has also put in a strong performance with sales of savoury pastry from deli counters up 14% in comparison to 2021, and quiche sales up 20% compared to last week.

Meanwhile. sales of rosé wine at Waitrose have risen by 18% in the past week compared to last year, and sales of Her Majesty’s favourite, Dubonnet, have increased by 50% year-on-year.

Emma Malden, Waitrose Entertaining buyer, said: “With Waitrose Entertaining sales up 30% compared to last month, it’s clear many of us are looking to save time in the kitchen over the upcoming bank holiday and maximise the time spent with loved ones. Whether it’s sandwiches for a street party or cakes for a celebratory afternoon tea, our Waitrose Entertaining range has something for every Royal occasion.”

In the last week, searches for ‘Jubilee’ have been up 60% on Waitrose.com, while searches for ‘Jubilee cakes’ have surged by 165%.
