John Lewis sales up 1.6% last week
Fashion sales were down 0.4% although sales of women’s casualwear continued to rise. Swimwear and nightwear also had a good week with sales up 16.9%. Meanwhile, childrenswear sales were boosted by a 31.5% increase in sales of children’s shoes as parents prepared for the return to school after the Easter break.
Home sales were down 5%, impacted by one day's less trade. Trading in the gift food and seasonal products category remained strong with sales up 7.1%. Stationery sales rose by 5.2%.
Electricals and home technology sales climbed by 11.7%, largely driven by promotions over the Easter period. The vision category, including TVs, had a particularly good week with sales up 14.3%. Sales in the mobile and photography climbed by 57.9% as new launches helped drive sales.
