John Lewis sales edged up 0.1% last week

Electricals and home technology had a strong week with sales rising by 8.9% as customers bought new TVs and soundbars ahead of the World Cup. Tablets and computers also performed well, driven by the retailer’s promotions, while the smart watch category achieved a record week for sales.

Home sales were down 2.4% although the outdoor living category put in a strong performance with sales for the week up 8.7%. The retailer’s Summer and Poolside collections also had strong weeks while promotional activity within the cookshop category helped sales to rise by 6.5%.

Meanwhile, fashion sales were down 4.5%, despite strong sales in the retailer's own-brand womenswear category. The Kin by John Lewis range was a particular standout with sales climbing by 82%. John Lewis said the week was its biggest ever in the lingerie category due to price matching activity through its Never Knowingly Undersold policy.
