John Lewis sales down 0.2% last week
Department store chain John Lewis saw its sales edge down 0.2% year-on-year last week.
Electrical and home technology sales climbed by 4.1% as trade was driven by strong sales of electrical items especially televisions and smart speakers.
Meanwhile, fashion sales were up 2.3% largely due a good performance in the beauty, wellbeing and leisure category where sales rose by 9.5%. The launch of the retailer’s spring campaign ‘Only Here’ boosted sales of its Kin contemporary lifestyle brand across womenswear, accessories and menswear. Kin womenswear sales were up 53% on the corresponding week last year.
Home sales fell by 6.9% despite a strong performance in the cookshop category and sales of bedlinen being up on last year.
