JD Sports sales boosted by World Cup
Sportswear retailer JD Sports Fashion has said it expects to see a Â“satisfactoryÂ” increase in its first half profits as trade is boosted by the World Cup.
In an interim management statement covering the 18 weeks to 7 June 2014, JD said the build up to the World Cup had lifted trading at its sports fascias although it did not release precise like-for-like sales figures as it said this would be “potentially misleading”.
It added: “We are certainly pleased with the underlying performance of this segment in the period to date.”
The group said its outdoor business was maintaining "positive progress" against weak prior year comparatives while its fashion business was continuing to experience a varied performance although there were "encouraging" signs for the future.
Looking at the group trading performance, JD said it expects first half profitability to be “satisfactory” and in line with expectations.
The group is due to report its interim results for the half year ended 2 August 2014 on 17 September 2014.
