Intu hits one million WiFi connections
Following the launch of its £8 million digital infrastructure investment plan in 2013, shopping centre operator Intu has reached a significant milestone with its one millionth WiFi connected customer.
Intu has rolled out free WiFi across more than half of its centres over a six month period. The remaining centres will have the service up and running during 2014.
To date over 500,000 unique customers have registered for the service, with the majority electing to receive marketing messaging. Intu said that feedback from customers had shown that the service is enhancing the shopping experience and encouraging shoppers to stay longer in its centres.
In 2013, Intu also launched a new website which enables shoppers to buy online and collect in-centre, which Intu says is helping drive additional footfall to its centres.
Gian Fulgoni, chief information and systems officer at Intu, said: “Shopping habits are continuing to change at a rapid rate and by investing in our own infrastructure and through ownership of networks and data, we ensure that we are well equipped to embrace further technology advances and shopper initiatives. We want to provide the very best service to our customers, enhance their shopping experience and help retailers flourish.”
