Insight: university students regard ASOS as best communicator

A new survey has revealed which retailers are regarded as the best for engaging with the UK’s student population.

Social network for students Campus Society carried out the research with 2,225 university students who were asked to name the retailers they felt were best at communicating with them.

While fashion retailer ASOS took the top spot, retailers in the top ten list of companies were as follows:

  1.   ASOS
  2.   New Look
  3.   Topshop
  4.   Amazon
  5.   H&M
  6.   Nike
  7.   Primark
  8.   Pretty Little Thing
  9.   Tesco
  10.   Urban Outfitters

Some 68% of students polled said they voted for their preferred retailer due to their effective communication of relevant offers and discounts. Other popular reasons included the frequency of communications (55%), sending exciting content (47%), using the right tools to engage with students (44%), and a lack of spam or irrelevant content (38%).

Rashid Ajami, chief executive and founder of Campus Society, said: “Retailers who get the frequency, relevance and mechanism of content delivery right will reap the benefits of better, more meaningful connections with the student. ASOS is a great example of a retailer that has moved to reduce its traditional advertising spend and instead invest in technologies and platforms that will enable it to have a better, more connected relationship with its customers.”
