Home Retail Group raises £150,000 for Macmillan in charity partnership launch
Home Retail Group has raised over £150,000 for people affected by cancer during the launch month of its new charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. The money raised will fund over 5,700 hours of Macmillan nursing care.
Having voted for Macmillan to become the company’s charity partner, staff from Argos, Homebase and Habitat are aiming to raise £3 million for the charity over the next two years.
Over a number of weekends from 27 March, staff from Argos and Homebase took part in ‘Go Mad, Go Green, Go Macmillan’ fundraising weekends and stores across the country were each challenged to raise £27 – enough to fund a Macmillan nurse for an hour. Other fundraising activities included bake sales, organised raffles and in-store collections.
Amy Whidburn, head of corporate responsibility at Home Retail Group, said: “Over the launch of our brand new charity partnership with Macmillan we saw incredibly high levels of engagement from stores right across the country, which is fantastic. We far exceeded our fundraising target, and having voted to support Macmillan, our colleagues will be delighted to know that they are making such a tangible difference to people affected by cancer by funding over 5,700 Macmillan nursing hours.”
Argos stores will support Macmillan’s next big fundraising campaign, Night In throughout May, with staff joining together for a range of events ranging from quiz challenges to movie nights.
