HMV opens first HMV techshop
HMV has taken a further step in its expansion into the burgeoning personal technology market by opening a pop-up HMV techshop in London¬ís One New Change shopping centre.
The 1,200 sq ft store housed on a site previously occupied by Foyles bookstores, will stock a range personal technology items such as Apple iPads and iPods, and tablets, netbooks and mp3 devices from the likes of Acer and Samsung. It will also offer a selection of headphones including the latest models by Beats by Dr Dre, Bose, Marley, Sennheiser and Skullcandy, which will be presented on bespoke 'headphones tables' for customers to try out.
Leased from landlords Land Securities on a short-term let until 2012 with the option to extend, HMV said the pop-up store will enable to trial a stand-alone technology offer. If successful, the format will be rolled out under the HMV techshop banner in other locations.
Ewan Pinder, HMV Head of Technology, said: "HMV's remit has always been to give its customers the widest-possible access to music, film and games, however they want to discover and enjoy them. So our move into personal technology products, including through this new-style store, is actually a very natural next step for us that supports our continuing transformation into a broad-based entertainment brand."
