H&M customers contribute to clean water in Bangladesh

High street fashion retailer H&M is offering its customers the opportunity to support the work of water charity Water Aid through H&M’s specially designed gift cards.

For every €10 added to a gift card, the H&M Conscious Foundation will make a donation to Water Aid’s work to help poor communities in Bangladesh gain long-term access clean water, sanitation and good hygiene.

Barbara Frost, Water Aid’s chief executive, said: “I am delighted that this holiday season H&M’s customers will once again be helping Water Aid transform the lives of thousands of the world’s poorest people through safe water, sanitation and hygiene. H&M has supported Water Aid since 2002 and has previously raised over £2.7 million for our water and sanitation projects in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. Thanks to these donations we have been able to help 180,000 people to take the first steps out of poverty.”

In recent days, the H&M Conscious Foundation has also donated $100,000 to the Red Cross to help the organisation in its efforts to support victims of the devastating typhoon “Haiyan” in The Philippines. The funding will be used to provide food packages, blankets, jerry cans, hygiene kits and sleeping mats, as well as to support search and rescue efforts.
