HBC, the owner of the Hudson’s Bay and Saks Fifth Avenue department stores, has appointed Helena Foulkes as its new chief executive.

Due to take up her role on 19 February, Foulkes was previously with CVS Health where she was executive vice president of CVS Health and president of CVS Pharmacy.

Foulkes will be responsible for HBC's global strategy and operations for all fascias including a portfolio of more than 480 stores worldwide. She will also oversee ecommerce platforms, the supply chain, logistics and technology.

On joining the business, she will be appointed to HBC's board of directors.

Richard Baker, governor and executive chairman of HBC, said: "Helena is a transformational leader who will invigorate the business with a new perspective as we position HBC for the future.

“Throughout her 25 year tenure in retail, she has a proven track record of making bold, strategic choices that, at their core, put the customer first and have proven enormously impactful to business success. The board and I are thrilled to have Helena take the helm and bring her invaluable experience to the company."

HBC's businesses in the US and Europe include Hudson's Bay, Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gilt, Saks Off 5th, Galeria Kaufhof and Galeria INNO.
