Harrods banks Britains first ever UK Gold Kilo Coin
The UKs first ever UK Gold Kilo Coin has gone on display at Harrods and is being looked after by round the clock security.
Struck by The Royal Mint, the £100,000 coin containing one kilo of fine gold has been designed by sculptor Sir Anthony Caro OM CBE RA to celebrate London 2012 and is one of only 60 created.
The coin is being displayed alongside the first ever UK Silver Kilo Coin, also commissioned in celebration of London 2012. The silver coin was designed by artist, composer and writer Tom Phillips CBE RA. Harrods has created a special display cabinet for the coins which are being kept under lock and key.
A Harrods spokesperson said: "Harrods is delighted to have been chosen by The Royal Mint to showcase Britain’s first ever UK Kilo Coin. We hope to excite our regular customers and those visiting London over the summer with this exclusive collector’s item."
