Garden Centre Group enjoys bumper Christmas sales
The Garden Centre Group has reported a 17% increase in year-on-year Christmas sales and an 8% increase in sales across 2011.
The UK’s biggest garden centre chain saw a 90% increase in plant sales, with sales of Christmas lights up 26% and sales of pet products 147% higher than the previous year.
The group formerly known as Wyevale operates 129 outlets in England and Wales.
Chief executive Nicholas Marshall said: "We have got the mix of products and pricing spot on, and our customers have responded well to that offering."
The business has been put up for sale by majority owner Lloyds Banking Group with the sale process being overseen by advisers at Rothschild.
Private equity firm Terra Firma is reported to be one of the frontrunners to buy the business, which is estimated to be valued at around £300 million.
