GAME concessions to open in Maplin stores

Electronics retailer Maplin has embarked on a partnership with gaming retailer GAME which will see GAME pilot concessions offered in Maplin stores.

GAME has 220 store lease renewals due by the end of 2018 and opportunities to partner to gain or retain locations has become a key priority.

In a statement, GAME said it aimed to create an authentic GAME experience in Maplin stores to complement Maplin’s technology expertise with GAME’s specialist gaming knowledge. The new concession spaces will have their own GAME team to support their software and ranges.

The partnership is launching as a trial in four Maplin stores and if successful will be extended to more of Maplin’s 217 stores across the UK.

Oliver Meakin, chief executive of Maplin, said: “This partnership is a really exciting opportunity for both businesses. I really believe that the co-operation between Maplin and GAME will be hugely beneficial to our customers. Maplin’s knowledge and passion for tech sets us apart from other retailers and GAME’s passion for gaming sets them apart, so I believe we are a great cultural fit. We’re delighted to work with another retailer who also provides expert advice to its customers.”

Martyn Gibbs, chief executive of GAME, added: “Customer experience is our focus at Game and we are looking forward to discovering the opportunities this exciting venture will deliver.”
