Footfall surge drives John Lewis performance
Sales rocketed to £74.7m for the week, making it the largest weekly increase this financial year.
The department store benefitted from an additional Bank Holiday and the imminent VAT rise.
Footfall on Monday 3rd increased by a massive 68%.
Online operations at Johnlewis.com surged 42% with white goods performing particularly well.
Home also had a tremendous week on the web, with furniture sales particularly strong at +41 per cent
The Fashion directorate saw an increase of 33% online, with toys, nursery and baby leading the way at +44%.
Maggie Porteous , Head of Selling Operations, at home, John Lewis , said “We are now moving rapidly towards the end of a very successful trading year. With that comes a focus on 'getting our house in order', be that if we work in head office or in the shops, where stocktaking is now under way. These last few weeks of the trading year are vital in ensuring that we end the year profitably and with a strong platform for 2011”.
