Flying Brands closes its flower growing operations

Mail order business Flying Brands has closed its flower growing and despatch operations in Jersey.

In an announcement made yesterday, the company said the closure of the Growing and Live Despatch business has resulted in the loss of 16 jobs on the island.

The move follows the sale of Flying Brand’s Gardening Direct and Flying Flowers businesses which are continuing under new ownership.

The company said it is in advanced negotiations with Jersey Choice, the company which purchased Gardening Direct last month, regarding the potential leasing of the greenhouses and despatch centre at its Retreat Farm property.

A spokesman added: “The board is continuing to consider strategic options for the maximisation of the long-term value of Retreat Farm.”

Flying Brands said it would give a further update together with the company’s interim results, which are expected to be announced at the end of the month.
