Ebay says UK is fastest growing market
Ebay has told the Daily Telegraph that the UK is now its fastest growing market.
Devin Wenig, Ebay's president of global marketplaces, said there has been double digit growth in the the number of UK shoppers using the auction site year-on-year. The UK site has 17 million unique users each month and 40 million listings.
The company said a growing number of customers were accessing the site and making purchases through their mobile devices with the channel now accounting for over 10% of all UK site traffic. It also said that one item every second is bought on Ebay via a mobile phone.
Ebay is increasing its focus on selling new goods through established retailers. Wenig told the Telegraph that the site was looking to "partner" with mainstream retailers, rather than undermine them with many working with the auction site to sell off old stock.
Wenig said the company was devloping its mobile app further by experimenting with image recognition to enable users to search for a product by taking a photograph.
