E commerce and electricals perform well for John Lewis
The cold snap helped to deliver an impressive increase for John Lewis with sales up 11.5% on last year and 29% on the two year figure. Solihull achieved the best increase on last year +14.4%, closely followed by Oxford Street +10.3 %, Knight and Lee and Peter Jones both achieved +9.4% and Trafford managed an increase of 7.9%.
E commerce fared particularly well; John Lewis.com had an increase of 41% on last year, large electrical sales were particularly strong. Fashions led the way with an increase of 14.2% on last year.
Childrenswear sales were lifted by seasonal merchandise giving an increase on last year of 31 per cent. Menswear and Sports achieved 21% growth on last year thanks to strong sales in accessories and own branded casual stock.
It was a good week for Electricals and Home Technology with both new product and old favourites driving an increase of 12.6 per cent. Small electrical sales were +21 % and Home achieved an increase of 8.4% on last year.
