Dragons' Den Peter Jones re-launches Jessops stores

Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Peter Jones is to open six of the re-launched Jessops stores today after acquiring the collapsed photographer retailer’s brand from the administrators last month.

The openings will be followed by the launch of up to 30 more stores throughout April at the rate of one a day.

Jones, who has assumed the role of chairman and chief executive, has invested £4 million in revitalizing the Jessops stores including the flagship outlets in London’s Oxford Street and Birmingham. The move will create up to 500 jobs with Jessops forecasting sales of over £80 million in the first year of trading to give it a 15% share of the DSLR camera market in the UK.

Commenting on the openings, Jones said: "I’m taking the helm as chairman and chief executive because I believe Jessops is an iconic British brand which can lead the retail resurgence on Britain’s high streets, powered by new innovations and world-leading, expert staff.

"Image is everything, and even in the mobile and tablet era, there’s no substitute for a quality camera when it comes to taking the perfect picture. Jessops’ hallmark expertise and customer service will now be available again to customers across the UK."

The new stores will feature play tables where customers can touch and feel the products, and try before they buy. There will also be greater integration with Jessops’ online offering, including a collect in store option for customers.

In addition, The Jessops Academy will offer a range of photography courses while a photo printing facility will operate a 25 minute express service as well as premium printing to canvasses and posters within the hour.

Jones added: "I’m convinced the great British public will get behind Jessops and look forward to welcoming the first new customers through our doors on Thursday."
