Dixons Carphone merger completes

Dixons Retail and Carphone Warehouse have joined forces today following the completion of their merger.

The two companies have begun trading on the London Stock Exchange under the new name of Dixons Carphone.

The new group is being headed up by Dixons chief executive Sebastian James while Carphone Warehouse boss Andrew Harrison has become deputy chief executive. Carphone Warehouse co-founder Sir Charles Dunstone has taken up the role of chairman.

Dixons Carphone, which now operates 3,000 stores, has opened seven new store-in-stores across its store estate and plans to open a further 23 by Christmas.

In a statement James said: “Today is a big day: our shares officially start trading on the stock exchange and we are off to a flying start with the opening of our first seven combined shops.

“Customers using Currys, PC World and Carphone Warehouse websites will be guided to the right place to buy from the whole range that we have to offer together – from a toaster to the latest smartphone. Our offices now proudly show our new combined identity and up and down the country we are delivering a clear message to our teams and to our customers: We are one.”
