Dixons Carphone appoints new chairman
Dixons Carphone has announced that Ian Livingston is to become its new chairman as Carphone Warehouse founder Charles Dunstone prepares to step down from the role and become executive chairman at TalkTalk.
Livingston has been deputy chairman of Dixons Carphone since joining its board in 2015. Prior to that, he served as Minister of State for Trade and Investment and was chief executive of BT Group from 2008 to 2013. Earlier in his career, he spent more than a decade at Dixons Group including six years as chief financial officer.
He will take up his new role on 30 April.
Dunstone said: "I founded Carphone Warehouse 27 years ago and it remains a very important part of my life. It is now three years since we agreed the merger with Dixons and I am delighted with the way both companies have performed since.
“We have built a very strong management team and I have great confidence in their ability, so I know that the company has an exciting future.”
Dunstone will step down from the board but will remain as a senior advisor to the company.
He added: “I am delighted that Ian has agreed to take on the role of chairman. He knows the company and the industry very well, is well-liked and respected by our management team and has been a voice of experience and support to the company since he joined our board."
Meanwhile, Tony DeNunzio will become deputy chairman and chairman of the remuneration committee also with effect from 30 April. This will be in addition to his current role as senior independent director.
